Glenbrook students take part in commemoration of 9/11: A Day of Remembrance and Service
While none of our students had yet been born during the attacks on September 11, 2001, it is certainly a day that many of their parents and teachers remember well. Since our Glenbrook children are very young, we like to focus our discussions about 9/11 on the patriotism that was exhibited that day. Many teachers and visitors shared stories of the firefighters and policemen as well as other everyday people that served as heroes on the life changing day and beyond. Several students learned of the unsung heroes whose stories were often untold. The lesson shared was that ordinary people can and should help others in need.
Glenbrook students honored first responders by writing letters to and creating cards for the Streamwood Police Officers and the Streamwood Firefighters to thank them for the service they provide in our community. Nearly 500 letters were sent to the departments that day to honor those individuals.
Glenbrook students are taking part in a collection for Operation Support Our Troops. Donations will be collected from now through November 12, the day of our Veterans' Day Celebration. We welcome donations of any of the following items.
