Ending August with a smile!
August has been an excellent month. Student have really begun to get into the routines and procedures of school. This week they had their first safety lesson as they practiced a Bus Evacuation Drill. This drill is important for all students, even those that walk to school. There may be a time that students take a field trip and ride the bus. They always need to know the safest way to ride the bus and what to do in the event of a bus emergency. The drivers were very impressed with the Hawk Pride they saw our Glenbrook students show and are confident that they know how to be safe when riding or evacuating a bus.
Donations
We had a wonderful surprise this week when the Kiwanis Club of Streamwood stopped by to donate school supplies. They donated a couple of boxes of supplies to help our students who struggle to purchase their own. Also a special thanks to 2 other friends of Glenbrook, Mrs. Linda DiMaggio, a grandparent of 2 of our students, and also to an anonymous friendly neighbor who also donated many supplies. Finally, you may have noticed that our orange caution cones were a bit old and broken. Thanks to parent Mr. Michael Godinez, we have some nice new cones! This should help better mark caution areas and keep our kids safe. Thank you all for your generosity!
Library
This week also marked the first week of library for our students. Mrs. McDonald showed the students the important areas of the library and introduced the them the general procedures before they checked out books. Students love visiting the Glenbrook library just like they like visiting your local public library. If you have not gotten your children a library card from Poplar Creek Library (Gail Bordon if you live in Elgin.), please stop by the library and do so right away. They have so much to offer and the entire family will benefit from visiting!
