December Starts Off Right!
We are only a few days into December and have already celebrated and enjoyed a whole lot! It takes many people to keep us this busy, so thank you to all of the parents, community members, staff and students for all you do. This teamwork is what makes Glenbrook such a great place!
Holiday Shop
No matter what culture, religion, or family background you have, December is a month of family, fun, celebration, holidays, and of course PRESENTS!!!!! Each year our PTA sponsors a holiday shop so the students can purchase reasonably priced gifts for their families and friends. This year, with no exception, the students enjoyed themselves immensely. It was a great way to work on those math skills too!
DARE Graduation
If you have had a 5th grader at Glenbrook you know that 5th grade is the year that our students participate in the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education Program. (DARE) DARE is sponsored by the Village of Streamwood and run by the Streamwood Police Department. This program has evolved over the years to include skills that are relevant to all students as they begin to grow into young adults. They work on things such as increasing self-confidence,
The students worked hard this year working with Streamwood Police Officer Tom Sparks who has developed a strong relationship with our students. We hope that they will continue to see him as someone they can trust and look up to for many years.
Congratulations to all of our 5th graders for their completion of the DARE program. We know you worked hard and are proud of your success! A special thanks to our DARE essay winners Melanie Aguilar, Brayan Snieg, Svanik Yachavaram, and Emma Perenlei who all did an exceptional job sharing your essays with us all!
Principal for a Day
I was really lucky on Friday to welcome Ms. Velma Sept as my Principal for a Day. Ms. Sept enjoyed, reading to classrooms, attending DARE Graduation, answering questions, and learning just a little bit of what it is like to be a principal. She is really good at it too! We were very excited to have Ms. Sept with us and are even more happy to tell you that she is coming back next Monday, 12/16 to share information with parents about the African American Advisory Council. Beginning at 6:00 PM we invite parents to join us for some refreshments and comradery while also learning more about this fantastic and influential group. If you are able to join us, please rsvp to Sandra Vazquez at
