Spring Is In The Air
This week our students finally enjoyed some nice outdoor time with a few days of warmer weather. Take a look at the joyous faces of our kindergarteners stretching and climbing on the playground. Such fun!!
Thank you to Mrs. Mary Olds and Mrs. Kaitlin Teater for their hard work with our 1st, 2nd, 3rd (Cannon's), 5th and 6th-grade students in preparation for the Spring Sing! The event was held Tuesday evening. The students did a great job! It was fun listening to familiar songs from "Across the Decades." Excellent performance boys and girls!
Congratulations to our very own 5th grader, Vikrant Baylan, who has been selected to compete in the 2019 MathCon finals! The event will take place on April 27th in Chicago. Good luck Vikrant, we are rooting for you!
A special thanks to all of the visitors from our U-46 district office who came to visit us on Friday. Thanks to Mr. Tony Sanders, Mr. Steve Burger, Dr. Ushma Shah, Mr. Brian Lindholm, Dr. Josh Carpenter, Ms. Mary Fergus, Ms. Lisa Jackson, and Ms. Laura Hill. Your support and feedback are invaluable! Also a special thanks to Glenbrook's incredible SIP/Leadership Team, you are rock stars!!!
Future Problem Solvers Bowl (FPSB)
I'm so proud of our Future Problem Solvers who once again competed at the state competition this weekend! The students were given a future problem to solve and worked as small teams to find solutions. They then prepared written documents and gave oral presentations. This year the scenario was set in 2043 and the students needed to develop a solution to alleviate the experiences of stress that the students and community Public School 878 felt.
The teams from both Larson Middle School (former Glenbrook students) and from Glenbrook Elementary are all coached by teacher Ellen Smith. They have been practicing since the fall on a weekly basis and were clearly well prepared. 5 of our teams placed in the top 6 in the state in either the oral or the written competition and 3 of our teams are heading to the Future Problems Solvers International Competition this summer. Congratulations to all 6 teams for your hard work and dedication all year long!
4th Grade (2 teams): Congratulations to both of our 4th-grade teams who have won a spot at the international competition by placing 1st and 2nd in the written competition and tying for 6th place in the oral competition. This was an incredible feat for your first year competing in FPSB.
