After The Bell Rings

The school day does not really end at 2:00, there are many, many students who stay much later to enjoy the many after school programs that we have here at Glenbrook.  Have you ever wondered what they are doing?  Check out the photos below to see how busy we are!

Our first club actually begins at 7:00 am, before the morning bell.  25 students come to school each day to work on a variety of programs in our Computer Club. Some are working on projects, while others work with ST Math, Moby Max or computer coding. What dedication!

These students catch up on homework during the after school Homework Club. It's a great way to get support from one another and finish their homework before they go home for the day.

Mrs. Smith and Mr. Follis enjoy working with students in the STEM and coding clubs.  The students in these clubs are building working with a variety of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to create many interesting innovation from designing robots to the use of green screens. They have a great time each and every session.

Wiffle Ball, our newest club, has been a huge success!  The students are enjoying the indoor baseball game each week. The third session starts on April 6, so get your spot reserved!

These brilliant minds are enjoying a game of chess during our after school Chess Club.  Each week they come together to strategize, planning their next move.

Our largest club with over 40 members is our Chorus.  This group of very talented students will be singing and sharing a few dance moves at the intermediate concert on May 3rd.

Mr. Whitmer, Mr. Follis, Mrs. Bury and Mrs. Jagielski meet with lots of students to play good old fashion board games during our after school Game Club.  This club is very popular and has been running most of the year.

Many of our students enjoy our after school SAFE program each day. This program runs until 6:00 pm each night. Students play games, do homework, watch movies, enjoy outside time, gym times, snacks and much more.

There are a few more clubs which aren't pictured, Mrs. Lentino's art club, Mrs. Smith's Future Problem Solvers and Mrs. Chandler-Roth's Algebra Club. We hope to even add a few more during the last 2 months of school. Watch your Friday folders and the weekly e-news for further information for "After the bell rings" activities!

National School Breakfast Week

Breakfast is really the most important meal of the day, especially for growing children.  Since 1989 schools in the United States have been recognizing National School Breakfast Week as a way to promote healthy eating and to raise awareness of our school's nutritiounally sound breakfast program. Last week we had over 100 students come out each day to join us for breakfast and participate in a variety of "get moving" activities. A special Thanks to Mrs. McGovern, Mrs. Pierson and Mr. DeCoste for organizing the week of fun.

Monday was Macarena Monday! Students danced their hearts out doing the Macarena.
Twist it Tuesday worked our waist lines. We also enjoyed an assembly put on by the Schamburg Boomers. They talked about how healthy eating is just as important as exercise in keeping our bodies strong. Wednesday was designated as Workout Wednesday where Mr. DeCoste led the students in a workout routine.  On Thursday the students enjoyed some games with Mr. DeCoste, the world's greatest physical education teachers. Finally, we had a special visitor on Friday with Captain Nutrition.  What a fun way to balance nutrition and excercise, and also a great way to start the day!

Glenbrook's Annual Family Fun Fair

One of the most popular events run by the Parent/Teacher Association is our Family Fun Fair.  Each year hundreds of guests join us for games, face painting, hot dogs, raffles and more.  Thanks to the parent and teacher volunteers as well as the student volunteers from Canton Middle School and Streamwood High School's Key Club and AVID program! We could never have put on such a successful event without you. Check out the awesome photos below.

Our Parent Teacher Association welcomes the guests as they arrive for a night of fun.
Let the games begin!

What would a party be without an amazing D.J. and some delicious food!

Congratulations to the many raffle winners, especially the Ballenger family who won the trip to Walt Disney Theme Park in Florida! A special thanks to Fireman Tim for being our official raffle caller.
