An End of Another Year

Get ready, this week's blog has lots and lots of pictures.  We had a great week filled with thank yous, celebrations, fun and laughter.  It was a year to remember and I sincerely hope you and your children have made many memories.  Have a wonderful summer and enjoy this week's blog photos!

Accent on Achievement
The  U-46 Board of Education honored our Future Problem Solving Team  that won first place at the state competition. They head to the international competition on June 8.  Congratulations again to Sarayu Manne, Saranya Ganne, Gurshaan (Shanu) Singh and Arav Patel. Also pictured are 7th graders from Larson Middle School who placed 1st place in the Oral Competition. Congratulations to Danyl Sulemanjee, Arjun Sivasankaran, Kush Patel, and  Mann Sheth as well. Thank you again Mrs. Smith for your work and dedication.

AVID Walk Through

For the second year in a row, the Streamwood High School Senior AVID Students came to Glenbrook to walk through the hallways to share their success. They each carried signs to indicate the college that they will be attending next school year.  So many of them were former Glenbrook students. We were so proud to be a part of their journey. Congratulations to all U-46 graduates and thank you AVID students for visiting!

Classroom Presentations
This week 2 classrooms shared their work with the rest of the students and staff. Mrs. Smith's 4th graders "sold" items from their store as they finalized their entrepreneur experiences.  Using play money students and staff had a chance to purchase items from groups as they attempted to make a profit from their businesses.

Mrs. Dimitrakis' class shared their biography presentations while dressing up as in the character of their research.  The work and knowledge in both English/Spanish was impressive. Way to show off your bilingualism and knowledge!

Awards Day
Each year we honor all of the students who put in extra effort and shared their talents.  Here are just a few examples of the excellence of our Glenbrook students. Congratulations to them and to all of our 6th graders who are moving on to middle school.

The President's Award for Academic Excellence went to 6th grade students who have very high academic achievement. These students work hard, volunteer, and are involved in extra activities as well.

The President's Award for Academic Excellence went to 6th grade students who made excellent progress and worked very hard this school year to be the best student they could be.  Many of these students have achieved high academic skills, and were involved in extra curricular activities.

The Citizenship Award goes to 6th graders who have had no referrals and have continually showed Hawk Pride. These students are respectful and responsible as well as safe each and every day. Many of these students are also involved in after school activities and serve on in school leadership teams.

The perfect attendance award goes to students who have done just that! They have had no absences or tardies the entire school year. One student, Jay Patel, has not had a single absence or tardy since entering kindergarten and he just finished his 6th grade year!  Way to go students!

Congratulations to Edgar Cortez and Samantha Havener for winning the bike drawings. Thanks to Horace Mann, who donated the bikes, we put all of the names of the perfect attendance students in a hat and drew 2 winners. Happy riding Edgar and Samantha!

Bike Winners
Thank you to Mr. Earl Dickens of Special Needs/Special Children, who donated reconditioned bikes to 4 of our students. Students wrote essays to say why they needed a bike.  Congratulations to our 4 essay winners!

Sixth Grade Celebration
Each year our 6th graders are treated to a special day of fun.  We invite dancer Kid and his crew to share their positive message, perform and to teach some dances to the students. It was a day of exercise, laughter and friendship.  We'll miss you 6th graders!  Good luck in middle school!

Field Day

Our last day of school has traditionally been used for an all school field day. It was a hot one, but the students had a great time and really showed their Hawk Pride.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who joined us!  Parents, grandparents, former students and community volunteers, we appreciate you!

Have a great summer!
