Future Scientists in Action

This year all U-46 elementary schools received a new science curriculum and a boat load of materials to go with the new curriculum.  The inquiry-based curriculum is a great way to introduce students to the scientific method while exploring a variety of scientific topics.  Glenbrook Elementary is lucky to have become partners, along with several other U-46 schools, with the Golden Apple STEM Institute. https://inquiryteaching.weebly.com/   This partnership has given several classroom teachers the opportunity to receive high quality professional development throughout the entire school year. We are excited to say that next year we will continue to receive support and professional development from the Golden Apple STEM Institute. Take a peek into just a few of the research and hands on experiments the students have done.

Many of Glenbrook's fine scholars have registered to share some of their own research and science experiments at the U-46 STEM Expo.  Students will display and present about a variety of Science Technology Engineering and Math topics.  To learn more about the expo, please visit http://u46stemexpo.com/

STEM Expo
Saturday, February 24th
@ Bartlett High School

Another group of students who have been working very hard on research, development and presentation skills is our Future Problems Solvers  These students are presented with a problem that could  take them beyond the 21st century.  Their task is to research and develop a plan to solve the problem. They write and present their findings as well. This year Glenbrook teacher, Mrs. Ellen Smith is hosting 4 teams, 3 from Glenbrook and 1 from Larson Middle School (all former Glenbrook students).  Saturday was their first competition and they did a fabulous job.  In about 2 weeks they will find out if they scored high enough to make it to the State competition. I'll keep you posted!

Hey, did you know this week was also the 100th day of school?  Below is a photo from the kindergarten celebration. More photos coming soon!
