Veterans Day Honors

This year's Veterans Day event was more special than ever. Mr. Joe Tremmel, a Vietnam War Veteran and Mr. Jack Kinyon, a WWII Veteran graced us with their presence.  The 6th grade classrooms all were treated to an amazing presentation by both men. Mr. Tremmel is the father of 6th grade teacher Mrs. Bury.   Even Mrs. Bury's grandson came to participate in great grandpa's event!

To make the event even more special, this year Mrs. Christensen arrange for the Quilts of Valor Foundation to bring these 2 special men a comfort quilt. The mission of the group is “to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.”  The men were quite touches by the gift which was brought by 2 representatives from the organization. To learn more about the Quilts of Valor, go to the website at https://www.qovf.org/

The students also made cards for soldiers, created posters for Saturday evening's Bartlett VFW Pasta Night, and set a white table in honor of those "who never came home." It was truly a special day. Thank you to all who helped us to honor all of our military men and women.

Outdoor Education at Camp Duncan

Our 6th graders had a great time during the fall outdoor education experience at Camp Duncan in Ingleside, IL.  The focus of the day was problem solving and cooperative grouping and the students rose to every challenge. There were many, many challenges both inside and out which created leadership and cooperation.

STEM Expo

This week U-46 and Poplar Creek Library partnered together to give students an opportunity to start planning their STEM projects for the winter STEM Expo which will take place on February 24th.  Students were able to explore and get ideas for projects in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at the library so that can start thinking about a project that they might want to create for the expo.  I'd love to see lots of Glenbrook students at this year's expo, so start planning kids!
