Professional Development Fun
for Glenbrook Teachers
While our children continued to enjoy their winter break, the teachers at Glenbrook returned for two days of professional development. Both days were filled with exploration, leaning and fun as they dove into the new science curriculum, formative assessment, STEM resources and some technology resources. Both days were energizing for all of us. We can't wait to share what we have learned with our students. Check out some photos below.
There are many online resources and global connections available to teachers and students. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Dauksavage and Mrs. Jagielski helped teachers to navigate many of those that are available to our teachers and students, most of which are free. It's so fun to connect with people all around our country and planet!
Even teachers like to play and discover using hands on STEM activities. Can you fish a bear from a well and save him from drowning? How do chain reactions work? Is building a sustainable bridge really that easy? It sure was fun to try out these materials and it will be for our students too!
Mrs. Dauksavage created a fun "Breakout" game for us to try.
Talk about using thinking and problems solving! Teachers used
black-lights, hidden clues, and cooperation to solve a variety of puzzles
in order to break into a triple locked box. It took some time, but
with perseverance and teamwork they did it!
We are all very excited to learn about the new science curriculum that is coming for 2017-2018 school year. Teachers from all over the district met at Elgin Community College on Friday to learn about the curriculum, dive into the standards, and become more skilled with inquiry based science. It was great to be able to work with experts in the field and our grade level partners from around the district. The students will love the new curriculum!
