Goodbye 2018-2019, Welcome Summer!

The end of the year has come and as always it was a bittersweet one. The students had a great time with awards and celebrations. There was laughter and a few tears as our 6th graders and the students who are moving said their goodbyes.  Of course, we will miss them, but we wish them well and hope they will return to tell us about their successes.  Enjoy the photos of our celebration and I wish you all a wonderful, relaxing, and fun-filled summer!

Last Full Week

Our last full week of school was definitely full! The year always ends with fun and celebration, a  reminder of the joy and blessings that we have as a Glenbrook family.

Hanover Township Celebration of Youth Leadership

Congratulations to Mrs. Smith, winner of Hanover Townships Youth Leader Award!  We are so proud of the work she does with our students at Glenbrook and for the entire school district.  Thank you, Mrs. Smith, for your leadership and support! Thanks to all of the students who came out to support Mrs. Smith and to share the kind words. Your testimony was heartfelt and appreciated!

Dining Out at Chuck E. Cheese

Friday evening was our last dining out night at Chuck E. Cheese, at least for the 2018-2019 school year. The families enjoyed a night of food and entertainment. Thank you to Cari Gesiakowski and Stephanie LeMaire for organizing the event.  There will be another Dining out for DESSERT night at Sprinkles on the last day of school.  

                   


 Lost and Found
Is your child missing a coat, sweatshirt, gloves, or other items?  Our lost and found is overflowing!  Stop by Glenbrook on Tuesday or Wednesday to check out the piles.  (All items will be donated to Goodwill on Thursday, May 30th.) 

Celebrating Leadership

This week we celebrated both our parents and our students as they proved the value of leadership.  On Thursday, our representatives from our Peer Leadership Executive Board took a trip to Symphony of Hanover Park, a local rehabilitation center.  The peer leaders had just completed a community service project and were ready to visit the center.  Then, on Saturday, 2 of our parent leaders graduated from the Hispanic Parent Leadership Academy.  Both students and parents have worked hard this year to show the value of leadership. Thank you all for your continued support and hard work!

Peer Leadership Executive Board Project

This year, the Hawk Pride Leaders in 5th and 6th grade have had many discussions about how to help their school and the community.  In order to put our discussions into action, they applied for a grant from the Kiwanis Club of Streamwood. They received the grant which allowed them to chose and purchase materials to share with a  local nursing home. Students created cards to go with the items. Two of our leaders, Deanna Tamondong, and Samantha Martinez did us the honors or joining Mrs. Jagielski and Ms. Lucas in presenting the donations to Symphony's staff. They were very appreciative and look forward to a future partnership.

African American Leadership Institute (AALI) and Hispanic Parent Leadership Institute (HPLI) Graduation

Jose Alcantara and Maria Martinez are two of this year's graduates of the HPLI. This group of parents along with the AALI parents met on Saturdays for 2 years to learn about District U-46 and to gain leadership skills. They have committed to becoming leaders in their schools and communities. We are so proud of Jose and Maria who have been very active on our own PTA and with the Citizen's Advisory Council (CAC) for the past 2 years. We look forward to working alongside them next school year as their daughter Camila moves to 2nd grade and Natalia comes into kindergarten.

City Councilman Cory Dixon, a former AALI Graduate served as the host for the event.

CEO Tony Sanders shared some remarks to begin the ceremony.

 the "voices" of those who often are unable.
