A Night Full of STEAM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math)

Thanks to our staff and PTA we had a great night at our first ever STEAM event at Glenbrook.  Our partner, Wayne, from the Golden Apple STEM institute joined our teachers to create a variety of investigations, games and art projects to help our students become create inquirers.

Students all had an opportunity to enter into a raffle to win a Code and Go Mouse or a Ozobot.  These fun coding toys are popular among all of the students.

Mrs. Corrao, one of our art teachers, shared some water creature art activities. The students enjoyed being creative and had fun playing a game with the sea animals.

Mrs. Chandler-Roth introduced students to a motion activity.  Students needed to create a car with an "egg" passenger. When the car raced across the room, they had to be certain to protect their passenger.

Mr. Wayne, from The Golden Apple STEM Institute brought everything we needed to successfully complete an egg drop. Students designed egg catchers and dropped their egg from the top of a tube into their egg dropper.  The goal, save the egg; we don't want it to crack?  Congratulations to all of the students who won emoji smiles by successfully dropping their egg.

Mr. Wayne also brought us some architecture equipment, lasers, mirrors, and view finders to build and design with.  The students had a great time exploring the materials and completing the activities.

Have you ever done a "Mystery Skye?"  These students spent time questioning students from another part of the world just to see if they could figure out where they live.  The students asked yes or no questions and the team worked together to figure out the location of the Mystery Skype classroom.

We watched our Alka Seltzer Rockets take off under the guidance of Mr. Chavez.  This chemical reaction was one of the favorite science activities of the night.

Mrs. Vargas enjoyed helping students to create catapults that flipped cups.  They were flying everywhere!

Giovanni Gregory and Kaylen Meza were the lucky winners of the STEAM Night drawing. They each received a coding robot so that they can continue their learning at home. Congratulations Giovani and Kaylen!!! Thanks to the PTA for sponsoring the giveaway.

So Much To Celebrate!

There has been so much to celebrate during this week before our spring break.  Our Young Authors enjoyed a celebration of reading, all of our state finalists were honored for their hard work, Moms and Sons enjoyed a day of bowling and we had dinner out to kick off our spring break.  Wow, what a week!

Sunday 3/18

Our annual Mother/Son Bowling event was held at Streamwood Lanes on Sunday.  It was a great turnout and fun time for all.  I'm sorry that I couldn't attend, but I thank those who sent pictures.

Monday, March 19 was our Young Author's Celebration. Again, thanks for the pictures since I had a meeting and missed the event.  I'm so proud of the writers and illustrators for their awesome books. A special thanks to Mr. Whitmer for organizing the entire Young Author's program. Congratulations to Jonathon Woolverton, Jose Luis and Alex Reyes for their winning books. All 3 students will have the opportunity to attend the Illinois Young Authors' Conference at Illinois State University in May.

State Competition!

Anyone who follows competitions knows how difficult it is to qualify for a state competition. Well, I am so proud to announce that 18 Glenbrook students have recently done just that!  On Wednesday, March 21st, we held a celebration to honor them for their hard work and dedication!

Future Problems Solving Bowl (FPSB)

This year Mrs. Smith coached 4 teams in the FPSB competition and all 4 teams are heading to the state bow in April. The task of the students is to solve a global problem that stems beyond the 21st century.  These students put in lots of extra hours after school and at home to plan and research. Congratulations to them all, we can't wait to see what you do at the state bowl! Thank you Mrs. Smith for your hard work in coaching these teams!

Dining Out Night
To celebrate the beginning of spring break, a much needed break for our kiddos, Glenbrook families enjoyed a night of dining at CiCi's Beyond Pizza in Streamwood. CiCi's and their team were gracious hosts!  Thanks CiCi's for your partnership and delicious food!
