Little Free Library Fun

The Little Free Library is up and running and the students are really excited!  Thanks to Mrs. Smith and Mrs. McDonald for getting these up and going for us.  It's a simple concept.  Take a book, leave a book, that's it.  We have 2 libraries set up, a tall one for our intermediate one, and one set a little lower to the ground for the younger ones.  We are so happy to see our kids reading and enjoying the books!

BINGO/LOTERIA NIGHT

We ended our week with another fun family night of BINGO/LOTERIA. It was a smaller crowd than our last game night, but we all had a great time. Thanks to our amazing PTA for organizing the event and for the volunteers who helped.

A Special Veterans' Day

Despite another snowy and unseasonably cold day, Veteran's Day was a memorable day for the students and staff at Glenbrook.  We are always honored to welcome several veterans as visitors to Glenbrook.  They share their experiences and passion for their country. It is certainly heartwarming.
A big thank you to Al Rayski, Joe Tremmel and Tom Day for sharing your stories! It was an honor to have to and we thank you for your service.

Many students across the grades wrote cards and letters to men and women who are currently serving in the military.

Tom Day, founder of Bugles Across America, the non-for profit group that works to ensure that all veterans have a military funeral complete with a bugler, shared his rendition of TAPs. It was an experience we won't soon forget. Bugles Across America

Frigid Temps Won't Stop Our Fun!

Temperatures continued to hover around the 20's early in the day and "warm" up to the low 40's as the day progressed, but that did not stop our fun!  This unseasonably cold weather just made us more determined than ever to show everyone that we at Glenbrook are driven!   Check out these awesome students and the fun and learning that this week brought.

Read For The Record Day

Streamwood High Schools Future Teacher's Club, lead by teacher Gerardo Barrio, spent some time with our K-2 classrooms on Thursday for the annual Read For The Record Day. The students enjoyed spending time with all of the SHS students, but we especially enjoyed seeing 3 former Glenbrook students, Alyssa Zuno, Maddie Rivera, and Aiden Remblake.

Mrs. Yera, former Glenbrook Kindergarten teacher, also came back for a visit.  Her now
3rd graders were very happy to see her!

Author Barbara Dee

Our 4th through 6th graders were treated to a special visitor this week when the PTA and our Librarian worked to secure an assembly with Author Barbara Dee.  Thanks to Anderson Books, Glenbrook received this complimentary visit.  Mrs. Dee shared her insights about what it takes to be a professional writer.  The students were intrigued by her words and those who purchased a book enjoyed some private time with her over cookies after the larger group assembly.

Camp Duncan - 6th Grade Fun

Our 6th graders really braved the unseasonably cold temperatures to spend a day at Camp Duncan in Ingleside.  They and of course their teachers had a great time and did an excellent job cooperating and working together to solve some really tough problems.  Way to go 6th-grade leaders!!!!

Windy City Bulls Night

We ended the week with Saturday night at the Windy City Bulls Game.  The game combined lots of celebrations. First, it was a celebration of Hispanic Heritage, then a U-46 all schools event to raise money for the U-46 Foundation which awards grants to innovations in schools throughout the district. Finally, it was a game to honor friend and former colleague Ron Raglin, who passed away suddenly in August.  What a great night!  Thanks to all the families who joined Mrs. Jagielski and me.
