Summer Fun and Celebrations!
Yes, it's summer, but Glenbrook students have not stopped working hard. They do show us that learning can be fun!
Future Problem Solving International Teams
Last week, our state qualifying teams went to the international competition for Future Problem Solvers. The competition took place at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Coach Ellen Smith took 18 students to the competition. These teams, representing Glenbrook Elementary and Larson Middle School, worked together to solve potential problems posed by de-extinction, or resurrection biology, the process of resurrecting species that have died out. The students competed against other champions from around the United States and from 13 other countries.

A HUGE congratulations to Sara Sulemanjee who competed as part of a Magic Team and took 2nd place! A Magic Team is a team of students that are paired with others from across the country. Sara was paired with 3 other students, one from Washington, one from New Jersey, and one from France. It's quite an accomplishment for this group of students who only met during the competition!

Summer STEM Program and the Summer Reading Program at Poplar Creek Library
Today was the first day of our summer STEM program and the students had a fantastic time! 50 students signed up for the free program and boy are they creative. Today students used their engineering skills to build towers for marbles to navigate. It was tricky at first, but with some cooperative group planning, they mastered the task.
After spending some time engineering, the students walked to Poplar Creek Library to participate in the Summer Library Program. Students are excited to log their minutes and win prizes! The summer reading challenge takes place from June 3 - July 26. To participate in the Poplar Creek Library Summer Reading Challenge, either stop by the children's department or register online at Summer Reading Challenge.
