How to show Hawk Pride at Glenbrook?

Several times a year we teach and review the expectations of Hawk Pride here at Glenbrook. If we want students to know and understand our expectations, we need to show the students and practice the expectations!  This week, the students learned our 3 rules of Hawk Pride:

Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Real Safe

We also taught our students the Hawk Pride Pledge which we say each morning as a reminder of our promise and commitment to work together to follow these expectations.

As a Glenbrook Student
I pledge to be
Respectful, Responsible and Real Safe.
I will do my best at all times
Where ever I go,
To show Hawk Pride.

We start each year with a safety talk to remind students how to safely go to and from school, what are safe items to bring to school and how to handle unkind behaviors and bullying.  Students model and practice the Stop, Walk and Talk method to help them feel strong and powerful against those who are not being kind.

At each station around the building the students practiced and discussed the Hawk Pride expectations for being respectful, responsible and real safe.  It was a perfect time to ask questions and get to know friends in other classrooms.

Mrs. Chandler-Roth held a beginning of the year patrol meeting where 5th and 6th graders could learn about the commitment it takes to be a safety patrol at Glenbrook. The students who decided to volunteer were trained and took home permission slips which a parent and their teacher need to sign. This group of students will need to be the leaders of Hawk Pride; always showing the best peer model. Thank you for your service boys and girls!

And the first week of school is a wrap!

What an awesome first week of school we had at Glenbrook. We managed to convince Mother Nature to hold the rain off so we can meet outside for our annual pledge ceremony. I hear the thick air caused some not to be able to hear too well; sorry about that. The students did a great job and although there were a few tears, our kindergarteners and their parents adjusted very well.  Hang in there parents, it gets easier each day!  Take a peek into the classrooms where we spent the week getting to know one another, establishing routines and procedures, checking in on our current skills and yes, already getting into curriculum.
